LEGO Hogwarts Castle: East Wing (76473)

The base goes down as three interlocking sections, and the first pleasant surprise is how little of it is flat plate. There is rockwork and staggered floor levels built in from the start, so even before a single wall goes up the thing has topography. This is the part where you decide whether you trust the model, and it earns the trust early.

The middle of the build is where the designers show off. There is sideways building for the buttresses, a run of cheese-slope roofing that reads as slate from a metre away, and a couple of arch techniques that are genuinely satisfying to lock into place. It never becomes the monotonous wall-tiling that sinks a lot of big castle sets. You keep getting a small new technique as a reward for the repetitive stretches.

The wing opens to reveal furnished rooms, and the interior detailing punches above the piece budget. What matters most for anyone building toward a bigger castle, though, is the connection system: the wing clips to neighbouring sections cleanly and the levels line up, so this reads as one part of a whole rather than a diorama pretending the rest of the school exists off-screen.

The parts mix is more specialised than a Technic box, a lot of it is architectural elements you will mostly reuse on other castles, but the printed pieces are generous and sticker reliance is low for a build this size. It sits a step below the flagship castle collectors' sets in raw value, but it is also a fraction of the commitment, which is exactly its argument.
