LEGO Unicorn Castle (31175)
A Unicorn Castle That Splits Its Focus
The Unicorn Castle is a pleasant set that pays a small price for trying to be two things at once. It is part fantasy playset, part display build, and in splitting its focus it does neither quite as well as a more single-minded set would. The castle is cute, the unicorn has charm, and a young fantasy fan will get real play out of it, but the build is on the simple side and the value is only fair. It lands as a fine, colourful set for the target audience and an unremarkable one on the merits.

The mixed concept
The set wants to be a play castle and a display piece together, and the compromise shows. As a playset it is a little static, without the mechanisms that drive scenario play; as a display it is a little toy-like and busy. Neither half is bad, but a set that committed fully to one or the other would land harder. The unicorn is the strongest single element and carries a lot of the appeal.
The build and the play
Assembly is straightforward and quick, aimed at a younger builder, and it resolves into a bright fantasy scene with the castle, the unicorn and the accessories. Play value is real for the target age, imaginative fantasy scenarios rather than mechanism-driven action, and the colours and characters are the draw. It does not challenge, and it does not try to.
The honest read
Value is fair rather than good: the parts are a reasonable mix but the fantasy-specific elements are less flexible for other builds, and the 3-in-1 alternates are decent without being standouts. It is a cheerful, approachable set for a young fantasy fan and an ordinary one for anyone weighing depth or value. Bought for the right child, it satisfies.
Worth it
- +Charming unicorn and bright fantasy scene
- +Approachable, quick build for young builders
- +Real imaginative play for the target age
Weighing on it
- −Splits focus between play and display
- −Fantasy-specific parts are less flexible; value only fair
Who it’s for: A young fantasy fan who wants a colourful unicorn scene to play with, rather than a builder after depth, mechanism or standout value.
On value: Fair for the size: a reasonable parts mix held back by fantasy-specific elements that are less flexible, and alternates that are decent rather than standout.
